Custom Business Settings
Once you have the template open in Excel, it's easy to set up your business and lock in a date range for your financial year:
Enter the Business Name you want to see on your Income Statement.
Choose the Starting Month of your financial year.
Enter the Starting Year of your financial year.
The Start of your Date Range and End of your Date Range will be automatically calculated!
Chart of Accounts
Set up your Revenue and Expense categories any way you like so you can see exactly where your business makes and spends money:
Track up to 5 Revenue categories.
Track up to 20 Expense categories.
Track Revenue by product (e.g. phone case), sales channel (e.g. Shopify) or any other way you like.
All categories created here will appear in a handy Drop-Down List you'll use when entering your transactions.
Transactions
Easily enter the full details of all your business' transactions in one place:
There's room for up to 500 transactions.
Only Correct Dates within your financial year can be entered thanks to in-built error checking.
Choose a revenue or expense category from a Drop-Down List derived from the Chart of Accounts.
Enter an optional Reference Number if applicable (e.g. an invoice number).
Create optional Hyperlinks to Documents stored on your device or in the cloud (e.g. Google Drive).
Built-in Error Checking helps ensure you don't forget to enter vital information such as dates and amounts.
Income Statement
Easily track the profitability of your business with the highly detailed Income Statement that has numbers for:
Every Revenue category line by line.
Every Expense category line by line.
Subtotals for Total Revenue and Total Expenses.
Total Profit/(Loss) for the year-to-date.
Total Profit/(Loss) as a percentage for the year-to-date.
Error Checking
Built-in error checking and protections ensure you only enter correct data and you don't accidentally delete any important formulas or functions:
Cells with incorrect data will be Highlighted Red so you can see them easily.
Error Messages appear to warn you to check for errors if there are any.
Cells containing formulas and other important information are Locked and Protected so you can't delete or type over them.
Transaction lines will not flow through to your reports until they are fully completed and error-free.
Example: only dates within your financial year will be accepted by the template.
